3 run from stolen Jaguar that crashed into north Madison mailbox, police say

MADISON, Wis. - Two of three people who ran from a stolen, crashed luxury SUV on Madison's north side were arrested Thursday night, police said.

The Madison Police Department said multiple law enforcement agencies teamed up to follow a stolen 2017 Jaguar F-Pace as it moved through the city.

According to the report, dispatchers at the Dane County Public Safety Communications center relayed the Jaguar's movements to officers using the car's GPS monitoring technology. Dane County deputies and Wisconsin State Patrol troopers joined Madison officers in following the car at various times as it moved from the West District to the North District.

The car crashed into a mailbox near a dead end on Knutson Drive, police said.

Three men ran, and area residents were helpful in providing law enforcement officers with their direction of travel, according to the report. Police established a perimeter and K-9 teams from Dane County and the city of Madison were sent into a wooded and marshy area.

Devante C. Anthony, 22, of Madison, and Shawndale K. James, 22, of Beloit, were found hiding in tall grass. They were taken into custody at gunpoint.

James was arrested on suspicion of operating a motor vehicle without the owner's consent, knowingly fleeing an officer, reckless driving and operating without a valid license.

Anthony was arrested on suspicion of operating a motor vehicle without the owner's consent and on a parole violation.

A third suspect remains at large, police said. The Jaguar was stolen out of the town of Middleton.
