BELOIT, Wis. - A 14-year-old was arrested at Beloit Memorial High School Tuesday for possession of a firearm, according to City of Beloit officials.
The teen was in possession of an unloaded pistol and a facsimile firearm, officials said.
A school resource officer received a tip that a student had brought a gun to school at 1:25 p.m. The pistol and facsimile firearm were found in the student's backpack, according to a release from the city of Beloit.
The student gave officers conflicting answers as to why the weapons were in the backpack, according to the release.
The Beloit Police Department transported the student to the Rock County Youth Service Center in Janesville, according to the release.
The school went on a brief, soft lockdown during the incident while police handled the arrest, according to Beloit School District officials.
