New tiger coming to the zoo in 2018
Community raised more than $22,000
MADISON, Wis. — The Madison community raised more than $22,000 on Giving Tuesday to bring a new male Amur tiger to the Henry Vilas Zoo in 2018.
Emily Lundquist, the zoo’s marketing and communications manager, said the zoo exceeded its original goal.
The previous male Amur tiger, Cyper, died earlier this year. While typically Amur tigers live 10-14 years in the wild, Cyber reached 18 years old. The Henry Vilas Zoo currently has an 8-year-old female tiger named Cali and the new tiger will act as her companion.
An anonymous supporter of the Henry Vilas Zoological Society pledged to match up to $10,000 in contributions. Last year on Giving Tuesday, the organization was able to raise more than $20,000 and bring in its male white rhinoceros, Harmon.
