New Lake Mendota dock is completed in Madison

UW faculty concerned about mass exodus over tenure elimination

The first piece of the University of Wisconsin Alumni Park — a new dock on Lake Mendota — has been completed in Madison.

The Goodspeed Family Pier was constructed of South American sustainable planks sometimes called bulletwood and has a capacity to dock 12 boats and eight canoes.

The Wisconsin State Journal reported the UW Alumni Park will be funded with an $8 million gift from the Wisconsin Alumni Association. The association has raised $6.5 million from more than 500 private donors so far.

By 2016, the park will provide green space and public gathering spots that connect the shore of Lake Mendota with Library Mall.

The pier was expected to host a public open house Friday night.
