New Berlin Eisenhower defeats Monroe, 67-63
Late Cheesemakers comeback falls short
ASHWAUBENON — The Monroe Cheesemakers rallied from 11 points down in the second half, but fell short as New Berlin Eisenhower won their WIAA State Girls Basketball Division Two semifinal, 67-63 at the Kohl Center Friday afternoon.
Monroe trailed 52-41 with 12:28 left, but behind Sydney Hilliard’s 25 points, closed the margin to 64-63 with 50 seconds left.
After free throws, the Cheesemakers trailed 66-63 in the final seconds, but Emily Benzschawel and Grace Tostrud’s three point shots to tie missed and the Lions advanced to the Division Two state championship game against Beaver Dam Saturday evening at 6:35.
Megan Benzschawel added 11 points for the Cheesemakers.
Monroe finishes the season with a 24-3 record.
