New alternative music station 106.7 launches in Madison
MADISON, Wis. — A new radio station is spinning alternative music in the Madison area this week.
Locally-owned Madison radio company Mid-West Family Broadcasting launched the new alternative music station, The Resistance, on Tuesday, according to a news release.
The station can be heard on 106.7, but The Resistance is more than radio, Mid-West Family said. The Resistance app will be available for download on iTunes or Google Play stores and can be heard on Amazon Echo or streamed online at altmad.com .
“People want to listen to stations through the device of their choice,” Randy Hawke, station program director said. “We don’t want to fight them on that; The Resistance will be everywhere you want it to be.”
The station’s name has its roots in Madison’s oft-referenced nickname as “77 square miles surrounded by reality,” Hawke said.
“We have always carved our own path. Resisted the norm,” Hawke explained in the release. “I wanted the brand of the station to truly reflect that spirit. It is the essence of Madison.”
The station will also see feedback through software that will allow listeners to influence what songs get played.
Cage The Elephant, Twenty One Pilots and Muse will be just a few of the hundreds of artists featured on the station, according to the release.
