Nelson Fredrick Wareham

MADISON-Nelson Fredrick Wareham, age, 90, of Madison, passed away on Friday, June 13, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born on Oct. 21, 1923, to Fredrick and Phyllis in Australia. Nelson grew up in Madison Wis., which he lovingly referred to as “The Bush”. He graduated from Central High School in 1940.

Nelson was called into service in 1944, where he became a Staff Sergeant. He trained and prepared soldiers for combat. Nelson and his son Michael recently traveled to Washington D.C. as part of the Badger Honor Flight. They enjoyed a day of memories and camaraderie.

After the war he made a living in the trucking industry, driving and instructing. Nelson was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan. He had many hobbies. He built remote controlled airplanes, boating on his boat “That’s Life”, and his true love FLYING. His love of flying turned into him earning his private pilot’s license. This was made possible by his good friend, Jim Notstad’s, unwavering patience. He married Angie in 1990. They shared and enjoyed great friends, good times, and traveling together. He always said “He had met his match”!

Nelson is survived by his wife Angie; two sons, Marc (Linda) Wareham and Michael Wareham; three daughters, Donna (Fred) Wareham, Rene (Greg) Osteen and Lisa (Bill) Smith; 12 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. The family would like to thank his good friends Jim Notstad, Terri and Kathy Hanneman, Puddles, Michelle Dorland, Doug and Julie for their unwavering friendship.

The family also would like to recognize Agrace HospiceCare for the incredible care they provided Nelson in his last days.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Nelson’s name. Memorials will be used to help a student in his dream of obtaining a pilot’s license.
