Nekoosa man sentenced to 72 months in prison for illegally possessing a sawed-off shotgun

DOJ: Mt. Horeb man sentenced to federal prison for gun crimes

MADISON, Wis. — A Nekoosa man was sentenced Friday to 72 months in prison for illegally possessing a sawed-off shotgun.

According to a news release from the Department of Justice, Jere Wipfli, 48, failed to appear for a jury trial in Adams County in May 2018.

Officials traveled to his home where he was arrested and saw freshly fired shell casings on the deck and driveway.

The release said a condition of Wipfli’s bond prohibited him from possessing weapons. Police obtained a search warrant and seized a sawed-off Remington 12-gauge shotgun and evidence of drug distribution.

Police said Wipfli admitted to possessing the weapon and knowing it was illegal due to its length.
