Nashville Predators honor Waffle House hero

The Nashville Predators honored Waffle House shooting hero James Shaw Jr. during Sunday’s Game 2 of their Western Conference semifinal series against the Winnipeg Jets.

Shaw met with Predators coach Peter Laviolette before Sunday’s game and received a personalized jersey.

The sold-out crowd at Bridgestone Arena then gave him a standing ovation during the game.

The NHL team also honored several of the first responders who assisted with the shooting a week ago in nearby Antioch, Tennessee, that left four people dead.

Shaw wrestled an AR-15 rifle away from the accused gunman, Travis Reinking, and was one of four people injured in the shooting.

A GoFundMe effort started by Shaw to raise money for families of the shooting victims had raised more than $200,000 as of Monday morning.

The Predators went on to win the Sunday’s game 5-4 in double overtime to even up the series with the Jets at one game apiece.
