Madison chefs and food producers team up for...
Madison’s good at it–and that includes our chefs and food producers. The Dane County Farmers’ Market holds the title for the largest producer-only farmers’ market in the U.S., which could very well be thanks to our ability to create meaningful relationships–both between producers and between producers and customers–that turn artisan products into thriving small businesses that are changing the local food landscape.
Chefs also are working together behind the scenes through the Madison Area Chefs Network. From most notable to up-and-coming, these chefs check egos at the door to help each other succeed. They share best practices, swap ideas, help staff each others’ kitchens and go in together on food shipments to cut costs. Which, lucky for us, also results in some interesting restaurant mashups and kitchen takeovers during MACN Week in the spring and the oh-so-yummy Yum Yum Fest food festival in late summer. Maybe it’s our Midwest manners that make it so easy, but whatever the reason, our ability to share and create relationships is helping grow our local food scene.
