Music News: CD Release Party to Honor Pat Peterson, New Video from Modern Mod
Like many of you out there I’ve been stricken with the polar vortex of cold viruses—that nasty one that’s been going around and seems to have affected everyone I know. But I do have a few updates for you on some recent Local Sounds blog posts, and if 2014 is the watershed year I believe it is going to be, I will soon have some major announcements as they relate to Madison music.
I who succumbed to brain cancer in 2013. His wife Ruth is paying Pat’s legacy forward with a series of new CD releases, one of which was reviewed here. Some of the proceeds from the CD sales and related events are being donated to the Children’s Hospital, a cause Pat believed in and supported during his life. The second CD of posthumous releases, Takin’ it Back, is now ready and family and friends will be throwing a celebratory gala on February 8 at RJ’s 108 S. 3rd St. in Watertown. Twenty percent of all profits from CD and merchandise sales will be donated to the Children’s Hospital as well as all The door and raffle receipts. There will also be a food drive for the Watertown Food Pantry. Donation at the door is only $3 and a mere $1 with a food donation.
The musical lineup is most impressive. The performers will play some of Peterson’s music in addition to their own. The schedule:
4–4:45 p.m. — David Mazzie Acoustic Experience 5–5:45 p.m. — Katie Scullin 6–9:30 p.m. — Chris Kohn Music with special guests David Mell/Drums and Jason M Goldsmith/Saxaphone 9:45–11 p.m. — John Masino
The raffle looks sweet, too, and more prizes are coming in:
Modern Mod, a local high school band that is coming on strong and celebrating their debut CD. The band had a successful Kickstarter campaign and the story highlighted the role that the parents have played in guiding these fine young people to such achievements.
At the time their music video for “Monday Mornings” was not finished and could not be included in the post. The video has been released now and you can view it right here:
Modern Mod will play the Frequency on February 3. You can support local music by going to the show (it is one of Madison’s premier rock clubs) but mostly you’d be supporting youths and music, a cause that most of you know is near and dear to my heart.
