Multiple commencement ceremonies held for Madison College students

MADISON, Wis. — There were a pair of commencement ceremonies at Madison College Friday, including one for the NextGen Responders Academy.

The event recognized nearly 30 high school students who completed the fire academy or emergency medical responder programs. Some completed both.

Students who graduate from the program become certified firefighters, filling a role that is in high demand.

“This is a really competitive field, so when you get hired it’s all about what certifications you have, what experiences you have,” graduate Kaitlyn Knutson said. “Putting this kind of stuff on a resume looks really good and gets you ahead of other people who are also applying.”

Also on Friday, roughly 1,100 Madison College students celebrated spring commencement at the Alliant Energy Center Coliseum. Roughly 700 walked in the ceremony.,
