MPD: Police chase group fleeing bank robbery, capture 4 in getaway car, foot pursuit
MADISON, Wis. — A group of people were detained Thursday morning after a bank robbery and police pursuit on Madison’s north side, authorities said.
The Madison Police Department said the UW Credit Union on Northport Drive was robbed at about 11:20 a.m.
According to the report, a suspect demanded money. No weapon was seen.
After the robbery, officers spotted a car believed to be the getaway vehicle and pursued it from Northport Drive to Sherman Avenue and eventually to East Washington Avenue.
Police said the suspects ditched the getaway car at the corner of Sixth Street and East Washington Avenue and attempted to flee on foot. Officers were able to catch up with them and take all four into custody.
During his attempt to evade police, the getaway driver collided with a few occupied vehicles, police said. A couple of people were injured, although none are believed to be seriously hurt.
The suspects’ names will be released if they’re arrested and charged in connection with the robbery, police said.
