MPD chief: Question is when innocent bystander will be affected by shootings
Two people were injured in a shooting on South Park Street early Sunday morning, Madison police said.
Officers were sent to 515 S. Park St. around 3:05 a.m. for reports of multiple shots fired with people fleeing the area, according to a release.
Officers found a man in the parking lot of La Hacienda Restaurant with gunshot wounds, police said. Another man, who apparently suffered gunshot wounds, showed up at a local hospital with serious injuries. Both of the men who were shot are 26 years old, and they are friends.
The man who was taken to the hospital was treated and released for a graze wound, MPD Chief Mike Koval said. The man who drove to the hospital had surgery for life-threatening injuries.
Koval said investigators found over a dozen spent shell casings in the parking lot of La Hacienda and on Drake Street.
The question is “if or when an innocent bystander will be affected,” Koval said.
Police are still investigating the shooting, and said they do not have suspect descriptions yet.
According to the release, there is no information at this point in the investigation indicating if the incident is related to any previous shootings in the area.
Officials ask anyone with information on the incident to call Madison Police Department or Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 266-6014.
