Motorcyclist suffers severe injuries in rear-end crash, officials say
A motorcycle driver who officials said was speeding suffered life-threatening injuries in a rear-end crash on Highway 51 early Sunday morning, according to a release.
Dane County sheriff’s deputies and Sun Prairie emergency crews were sent to the intersection of Highway 51 and eastbound Interstate 90 in the town of Burke around 12:55 a.m. for reports of a crash involving a motorcycle, officials said.
Investigators said the driver of a 1995 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, a 51-year-old DeForest man, was speeding on Highway 51 northbound when the motorcycle rear-ended a vehicle in the same lane.
The 51-year-old was taken to a hospital with severe and life-threatening injuries, officials said.
According to the release, speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the crash.
All northbound lanes of Highway 51 at the interstate were closed almost four hours, according to Department of Transportation emails.
