Motorcyclist dies and passenger injured after striking deer in Mazomanie
MADISON, Wis. — A motorcyclist died after hitting a deer Mazomanie on Saturday afternoon, according to police.
A 61-year-old male was southbound on State Highway 78 when he struck a deer. He had a 60-year-old female passenger on board, police said.
Both were ejected from the motorcycle and were found unresponsive, police said.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office identified him as Jerome B. Sazama of Arena.
The passenger suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken by Med Flight to an area hospital.
Neither of them were wearing helmets, police said.
Highway 78 was closed for more than four hours and reopened to traffic at 10 p.m.
