Mother found competent for trial in ’57 death
Sheboygan woman accused of killing her baby
SHEBOYGAN, Wis. — A Sheboygan woman accused of killing her baby 55 years ago has been found competent to stand trial.
The defense attorney for 76-year-old Ruby C. Klokow had asked for a competency exam after raising concerns about his client’s ability to assist in her own defense.
After reviewing the doctor’s report, Judge Angela Sutkiewicz on Tuesday ruled Klokow competent for trial. Online court records said Klokow didn’t contest the finding.
A message left with defense attorney Kirk Obear was not immediately returned.
The next step in the case is a status conference, set for Nov. 6.
Klokow was charged after her son came forward in 2008 with stories of horrific childhood abuse, including allegations that his mother kicked him with steel-toed boots so often that he still has knee problems.
