More than 2,000 people without power Friday morning

Thousands without power in southwestern Wisconsin after storms

More than 2,000 people were without power Friday morning after Thursday storms, according to Madison Gas & Electric and Alliant Energy.

As of early Friday morning, MGE reported 1,433 people were still without power and Alliant Energy said 235 costumers had no power.

As of 3:20 p.m., about 652 MG&E customers were still without power. Alliant Energy reported 449 customers without power.

About 75 percent of the 7,500 customers who lost service following the Thursday storm have their power back on. There is no estimate as to when the power will be restored this morning due to the number of outages.

The total number of MG&E customers affected by the storm was more than 9,700.

MGE will respond to areas which have more customers first. The outages are scattered throughout the Madison area, but the west side has been hardest hit.

Workers are seeing damaged utility poles, downed trees and power lines due to the storm’s strong winds. MGE warns to never approach a downed power line or anything it comes in contact with.

Customers who have not reported a loss of power are asked to call MGE at 252-7111.
