Monroe Loses At State Softball Tournament

Monroe High School ‘s experience at the state softball tournament didn’t help them Thursday as undefeated Baldwin-Woodville held the Cheesemakers to three hits and won, 10-0.

The Blackhawks got four runs in the second inning to take a 5-0 lead. Monroe got two runners on in the 4th, but simply had no answer for pitcher Abby Klopp. She made 11 strikeouts on her way to a victory.

But Monroe’s head coach said going to the state tournament for the third time in four years was worth it.

“We had a great season,” said Monroe head coach Dale Buvid. “It’s a tough way to finish today. Although in some ways when you lose like this, instead of a one run game, it’s a little bit easier to take. The better team won today and … what is it, three percent of high school athletes get to compete in a state tournament? So, like you said we still got here.”

Monroe finishes with a 17-11 record.
