Monroe E. Duncan, 81, of Apple River, Illinois, died on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at the Monroe Clinic Hospital, Monroe, Wisconsin.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster, Wisconsin. Monroe was born at home on February 6, 1937, the son of Clyde and Edna Mildred (Foster) Duncan. He was united in marriage to Marcene Dobson on September 3, 1955 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Platteville. He worked at the Dubuque Pack for almost twenty years. For many years he did harness horse training and driving in the Chicago area, picking up what he did with his father as a young man harness racing. He enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre, and bowling which he was proud to roll a perfect game.
Monroe is survived by his wife, Marcene; four children, Marcia Burd, Dawn Curran, Marshall Duncan, and Cheryl Duncan; twelve grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Wahnita (Dale) Tracy and Wanda (Gene) Bartow; one brother, David (RoseMary) Duncan; sister-in-law, Jean Duncan; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jarrod Duncan, his parents, sisters, Iva Accola, Mavis Knight, and Ollie Droullard, brothers, Clay, Leo and Foster Duncan.
