MONONA, Wis. — Monona Police officers came to the rescue Tuesday night, helping a dog who was trapped under a pier on the Yahara River.

Officers responded to a call in the 6300 block of Winnequah Rd. around 8:06 p.m. with reports of a dog, named Otis, drowning in the river.

In a Facebook post Wednesday, Monona Police say an onlooker jumped into the river to try and save Otis.

However, this only scared the dog, causing him to be trapped further under the pier.

Officers, with the help of the onlooker and the property owner, were able to dismantle part of the pier and rescue Otis.

Otis was later reunited with his family and is doing well.
