MMSD kindergarteners receive ‘small library’

MADISON, Wis. — Every Madison kindergarten student will be receiving their own ‘small library’ of books to take home.

The donation of over 15 thousand books was made possible through a collaboration between the district, the Madison Public Schools Foundation, and the Madison Reading Project.

Funding was provided by memorial donations from the family of Karen Christensen-Ragatz, a longtime ESL teacher in the district.

“This is so important because we want to make sure our students have access to quality and fun books,” Lakeview Elementary School Principal Nou Vang-Vue said. “Books that they can keep at home and have a part of their home libraries to read and enjoy.”

Each student’s library will include multilingual books to honor Mrs. Ragatz’s teaching career.
