Minnesota stuns Wisconsin in overtime
Gophers get the best of Badgers again
MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin women’s hockey came into the weekend with the nation’s top ranking as the No. 1 Badgers hosted No. 2 Minnesota. The Gophers weren’t intimidated in UW’s ranking, or a raucous crowd at LaBahn Arena. The Gophers beat Wisconsin 3-0 Friday night, then again 2-1 in overtime on Saturday.
Saturday, Wisconsin’s Sarah Nurse scored in the second period to give the Badgers a 1-0 lead. They held that lead until 1:28 remaining in regulation. Then, Rachel Bona scored for Minnesota to send the game into overtime. With just 55-seconds remaining in OT, Rachel Ramsey slipped a rebound shot past UW goalie Ann-Renee Desbiens to give Minnesota a 2-1 win.
Wisconsin hasn’t beaten Minnesota since October 14, 2011.
Up next, the Badgers hit the road to play Bemidji State next Friday and Saturday.
