Milwaukee woman leaves $50K in will to local PD
A Milwaukee tavern owner who was a fixture in her south side neighborhood for many years left $50,000 in her will for the Milwaukee Police Department.
Paula Gorde died last June at the age of 92. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that for many years she ran Paula’s Tap, where she was known to frequently shelter abused women and children from the neighborhood in her apartment above the bar.
Police say the bequest was in honor of her late husband, who had been a prisoner of war in World War II. Gorde instructed the department to use her donation to buy a squad or other police vehicle. Lt. Mark Stanmeyer says it’s not uncommon for the department to be included in wills and that it’s always appreciated.
