Milwaukee man wins largest jackpot in Megabucks’ lottery history

$1M Powerball ticket sold in Madison

A Milwaukee man is cashing in on the largest jackpot in Megabucks lottery history, according to a release.

John Rumpel purchased the winning $22.2 million ticket for the May 30 drawing at A&I Services in Milwaukee.

The former high school teacher said his wife sent him to a convenience store for a gallon of milk and while he was there, he decided to buy a ticket.

He said he later heard on a newscast that the winning ticket was sold at the A&I, so he looked up the numbers.

Rumpel chose to receive the cash option of $15.7 million as his prize, and A&I will also receive $100,000 for selling the ticket, according to the release.

It was the largest sum awarded since Megabucks started in 1992 as Wisconsin’s official lottery game.
