MILWAUKEE, Wis. — The oldest bear in human care in North America has died.

Snow Lilly, a polar bear at the Milwaukee County Zoo, was euthanized Friday due to declining health, the Zoo announced. She was 36 years old.

She arrived at the zoo in 2005 and quickly became a must-see for visitors.

“She enjoyed swimming in her pool and could be seen bouncing a large rubber ball on the bottom of the pool like a basketball,” the zoo said in a Facebook post Saturday.
