Milwaukee Co. deputy died after slamming into tow truck
Wisconsin State Patrol is investigating crash
MILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee County sheriff said a sheriff’s deputy died after his vehicle slammed into the rear of a flatbed tow truck.
Sheriff David A. Clarke Jr. held a news conference Wednesday about the crash that killed Deputy Sheriff Sergio Aleman.
Clarke said the tow truck had slowed for a traffic jam, and the 21-year-old driver was “in no way responsible” for Aleman’s death.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that Clarke did not blame Aleman for the crash, either. The sheriff said he is waiting for results of a State Patrol investigation and an autopsy.
Aleman was an 18-year-old veteran of the sheriff’s office. He was traveling near downtown Milwaukee when the crash happened Tuesday afternoon.
The deputy was in a sheriff’s pickup that helps disabled vehicles.
