Milwaukee area police involved in 2 officer shootings
WAUWATOSA, Wis. — Police in the Milwaukee area have been involved in two separate officer-involved shootings.
The latest shooting happened early Tuesday in Wauwatosa when officers began pursuing a stolen vehicle after the driver failed to stop. Police say a suspect began firing at officers after getting out of the vehicle. At least two rounds struck a squad car. Officers returned fire, striking the 23-year-old shooter twice. He was treated at a hospital. One of three others in the vehicle, a 19-year-old woman, was also hit by gunfire, either from police or the suspect.
A second shooting happened Monday about 7 p.m. in Waukesha. Authorities say an officer shot a fleeing suspect in the leg as he ran from police who tried to pull him over for reckless driving. Officials say the officer thought the man was reaching for a weapon when he fired.
