Mildred M. Otto age 99 of Mauston passed away peacefully Sunday February 02, 2014 at Cottage Care in Mauston, WI.

She was born August 25, 1914 in Mauston. She was the daughter of the late Grant and Nellie (Rowley) Thompson. Mildred married Bernard Otto September 25, 1943. They had 59 happy years of marriage until he preceded her in death 2002. She attended Mauston High School and then Juneau County Normal. She taught grades 1 thru 8 at Rock Valley, a one room country school. After several years of dairy farming she went to UW La Crosse to be certified to teach 2nd grade at Westside Elementary School in Mauston. She loved her kids and loved teaching. When she retired from teaching, they went traveling around the United States wintering in Texas and occasionally Florida.

She enjoyed cooking, traveling, reading, crafting and having company. She was a wonderful crafter who crocheted beautiful angels and quilled many greeting cards and pictures. Mildred won several state awards for her original designed quilling work.

She was a longtime member of Lindina Go Getters Homemakers club. She had received her 65 year pin with great pride. She also was active in Hospital Auxiliary, Ladies Aid and Retired Teachers and she composed the monthly newsletter for Peace Presbyterian for many years.

She is survived by her nieces Patricia (Gerald) Goecks and Barbara(Ron) Peterson, her nephew Ronald (Janet) Webb, special cousin Darlene (Warren) Peckham, step nephew Gary (Vickee) Rose, great nephews Dwane (Debbie) Talg, Dean (Lynn) Talg, and Dale (Laurie) Talg, great- great nieces Tori and Abbie Talg, great -great nephews Devin and Derrick Talg.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband Bernard, her parents and sisters Lucille Webb and Irene Rose.

Our family would like to express a special thank you to the loving and caring staff at Cottage Care. We would also like to thank her pastor Terry McGinley and special friend Carol Carter for all their support.

Mildred’s funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at Crandall Funeral Home in Mauston, where friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until time of services.

Burial will be at the Mauston Cemetery.
