Middleton wins WIAA Div. 1 golf sectional
Cardinals #5 player takes individual title
BARABOO, Wis. — Middleton’s Charlie Stankiewicz parred the first playoff hole to win the individual sectional title to lead the Cardinals to the team championship at the WIAA Division One boys golf sectional at Baraboo Country Club Tuesday.
Stankiewicz, who plays out of the number five spot in the lineup for Middleton, shot 74 along with Holmen’s Tyler Church.
Middleton also had scoring from Brady Thomas (76), Josh Haunty (76) and Joey Levin (79) for a 305 total – four shots ahead of Holmen which also qualified for next week’s state tournament at University Ridge.
Other individual state qualifiers include Oregon’s Carson Torhorst, Onalaska’s Bennt Hutson and Tomah’s Trey Hewuse.
At the Division Three sectional at Lawsonia Links in Green Lake, Lancaster won the team title with a score of 321. Scoring for the Flying Arrows were Nathan Farrey (second overall, 78), Andrew Gates (third, 80), Zach Hentrich (T4, 81), and Josh Hentrich (sixth, 82).
Osseo-Fairchild (334) finished second and also sends its team to state.
Other individual qualifiers include Cuba City’s Drew Zimmerman, Mineral Point’s Taylor Ryman and Randolph’s Austin Buss.
