Middleton to study Morey Field to develop master plan

It’s been about 20 years since Middleton bought its airport, and now the city wants to figure out what’s next.

In the 21 years the city has owned the Morey Field, officials realized they never made a master plan, and now they are starting to develop one.

These types of planes are ALL OVER Morey Field, and I love it ✈️ Middleton will start a master plan study this week for this airport, and while they don’t know how that will look, they told me they aren’t planning on letting anything bigger fly here any time soon. #News3Now pic.twitter.com/HA6zQVW1bq

The city is planning an open house meeting for the public to come learn about the airport and say what they would like to see.

The assistant planning director, Mark Opitz, said they don’t have any preconceived ideas for what will happen.

“We are just trying to get a better idea of how the airport serves the region,” he said, “what the existing conditions are, what the potential future could be. We may end up with a master plan that doesn’t recommend any changes to the airport. That is certainly an outcome that is on the table.”

He said the only thing the people at the city are set on is that they want to keep the types of planes that fly at about the same, no bigger.

This meeting is an open house, scheduled for Thursday at Kromrey Middle School from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
