MIDDLETON, Wis. — The Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District has responded regarding the teacher on leave for separating students by race during a test last fall.

The incident happened on Oct.16, during the school’s STAR math and literacy test for 9th and 10th grade students.

School officials said the staff member remains on paid leave and that an investigation is ongoing.

Middleton School District Director of Communications Perry Hibner said school officials “do not close an investigation until there is a resolution.” Hibner said possible resolutions can include a staff member resigning or being fired.

School officials originally predicted that a decision would be made by December, but the investigation continues.
