Middleton robbery suspect reportedly stole vehicle from coffee shop
A Monroe man is in custody in connection with a robbery at a BP gas station in Middleton.
Officers were called to the business along the 6500 block of University Avenue just before 2 p.m. Sunday for a robbery.
When crews arrived, they saw the man driving away, in what ended up being a stolen vehicle, and chased after him.
The suspect crashed into a parked car on Voss Parkway and tried to run away. However, the Middleton Fire Department tracked him down using their search and rescue drone.
Police said Marquis M. Phiffer, 21, was found lying in the cattails in the water by Tiedemann’s Pond and taken into custody. He was arrested on suspicion of robbery, operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent and eluding an officer.
Earlier on Sunday, Phiffer allegedly stole a Subaru Outback that was running in the parking lot of the EVP Coffee at 555 S. Midvale Blvd., Madison police said.
A man went inside the coffee shop around 1:15 p.m., and while inside he noticed Phiffer get into his vehicle, according to a news alert from Madison police. The vehicle owner tried to get Phiffer to stop, but he eventually drove away.
The search prompted an emergency notification to Middleton residents Sunday afternoon.
The Middleton Police Department is investigating the incident.
