Middleton leads Morgan Stanley Shootout
Waunakee's Murphy has low score of the day

VERONA — Middleton placed four golfers in the top seven to take an 18-shot lead after the first day of the Morgan Stanley Shootout boys golf tournament at University Ridge Wednesday.
Brady Thomas led the Cardinals with a 73, while teammates Josh Haunty (75), Emmet Herb (75) and Charlie Stankiewicz (77) also helped Middleton to a commanding lead after the first 18 holes.
Waunakee’s Max Murphy had the low round of the day with a 72. Edgewood’s Johnny Decker and Verona’s Riley Schmitz both shot 76 to tie for fifth individually while MG’s Eli Buffat, Madison Memorial’s Kellen Rice and Sun Prairie’s Nate Oehrlein tied for seventh with 77.
The second and final round is Thursday at University Ridge.
