Middleton High School announces new principal
Former Illinois principal plans to start at MHS in early July
MIDDLETON, Wis. — Steve Plank was named Middleton High School’s new principal Thursday, according to a release.
Plank has been the principal at Lakes Community High School in Antioch, Illinois, since 2010, officials said. He will be replacing Denise Hermann, who resigned in May to accept a similar position in California.
“Dr. Plank is an exceptional leader who will continue the tradition of academic excellence at Middleton High School,” Superintendent Don Johnson said in the release. “He also brings an amazing track record of building strong relationships with students, parents and faculty. He will be an incredible addition to an already strong administrative team.”
Plank went through two rounds of interviews and met with approximately 80 staff members, parents and students during two open forums on Tuesday, according to the release. There were 27 candidates who applied for the position.
“My vision is your vision,” Plank said. “It is a collective vision. There are things that I value. But ultimately I would need to know where we are today and what our history is. I have learned you need to know where you are coming from and where are you. I would like to learn from all of you what that vision is and hope I can contribute.”
Plank plans to be visible in the hallways and the classrooms at MHS.
“I think respect comes from doing,” he said. “I know what’s going on with my students right now. I know stuff before it happens and I have a relationship with students so we can talk about it. You have to be present. I will be available and accessible.”
