Michigan man faces felony retail theft charge in Bed, Bath & Beyond scam, police say
MADISON, Wis. — Madison police arrested a man on suspicion of felony retail theft on Monday, accusing him and three others of scamming a Bed Bath & Beyond out of $3,000 worth of merchandise and gift cards.
The suspects used a “global cash card” and told the retail clerk at the Lien Road location that she had to press the “cash” button on the register for their “cash card” to work. They ended up paying nothing for the transaction.
An officer arrived at the scene, and while reporting the crime, one of the young men arrived at the Junction Road Bed Bath & Beyond location to return more than $700 worth of goods stolen from the Lien Road location.
Jamar C. Lewis, 20, who is from Flint, Michigan, was arrested, and refused to give up the names of his co-conspirators, according to the report. He told officers that they had come to Madison on vacation.
