Michael “Mike” J. Zeisler

Michael Mike J Zeisler

DEFOREST – Michael J. Zeisler, age 80, died peacefully surrounded by his family on April 3, 2021.

He was born on July 1, 1940 in La Crosse, WI to Richard F. and Mary A. (Reinhard).

Mike graduated from Aquinas High School in La Crosse in 1958. He enlisted in the Army and served from 1959-1962 and was stationed in Japan. He earned a job with the Wisconsin DOT and served as a construction technician and then engineer after passing the professional engineer’s exam. After retiring from the DOT in 1996, he returned to work for several local consultants in similar capacities until his full retirement in 2014.

Mike married Rose Marie (Weissenberger) in 1970 and they spent 51 wonderful years together. He enjoyed golfing, reading, puzzles, and most importantly, spending time with his family. One of his favorite past-times was reading Dr. Seuss (or any story) to any of his children or grandchildren. “Sweety and Sweety”, and a huge smile, was a favorite refrain of his when talking about his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mike is survived by his wife, Rose; sons, Mark Buchanan (Wendy) and Gregory; daughters, Maria Walker (Michael) and Teresa Trimble (Chet); granddaughters, Samantha and Shelby; great-grandchildren, Addison and Hank; sisters, Kathleen Goldman (Neil) and Anne; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Richard and James.

There will be a private service for immediate family members held on Friday, April 9, 2021.

Memorial contributions can be made to Agrace (agrace.org), St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org), or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (lls.org).

A special thank you to the Agrace nurses and caregivers in Janesville who served Mike and his family.
