Metro Market homicide suspect previously attempted suicide, officials say
Police records show that homicide suspect Christopher O’Kroley, 26, previously attempted to take his own life.
After a nearly day-long man hunt that ended in a shootout with Madison police on Wednesday, O’Kroley was arrested.
Cottage Grove police records show that officers responded to an attempted suicide by O’Kroley on Sept. 24, 2014.
Amanda Joers, a former girlfriend of O’Kroley’s, told News 3 that O’Kroley tried to take his own life by overdosing on medication.
“I thought, ‘This is it,’ I called the ambulance, I did what I was supposed to do, I saved his life, he’s going to get help,” Joers said.
However, it was wishful thinking. Joers said he left the hospital days later without a proper mental health diagnosis.
“He did not get the proper treatment,” she said. “There were not enough options, I guess.”
Joers blames what O’Kroley may have done on his untreated mental health issues.
“Now it’s to a point where somebody has lost a life over it,” Joers said.
Joers said she’s trying to make sense of everything. She’s struggling to understand the man she once loved, and heartbroken over what happened to Nosal.
“I would love to reach out to her family, I don’t have their contact information, I don’t even know how to get a hold of them, (but) that’s all I want to do, I want to hug them that’s all,” she said.
A GoFundMe account has been set up for Nosal’s family.
