Meth lab found along the side of the road in Iowa County
A meth lab was found along the side of Wisconsin state highway 191 east of Dodgeville Friday afternoon, and workers closed the highway as a precaution, according to the Iowa County Sheriff’s Department.
The sheriff’s department said a citizen driving along 191 Friday afternoon noticed a dark colored duffel bag along the side of the road, and was worried a car had gone off the embankment. But when the citizen looked inside the bag, they noticed several suspicious items and called law enforcement, according to the sheriff’s department.
Agents from the Richland-Iowa-Grant Drug Task Force were called to the scene to help Iowa County deputies and the Dodgeville Fire Department clean up the mess. A team from the State Department of Criminal Investigation inspected the bag and confirmed the bad contained a methamphetamine lab that had recently been dumped along the road.
Deputies closed Wisconsin Highway 191 between Section Line road and County Road Z east of Dodgeville until Saturday afternoon. A hazardous materials team went to the site to properly dispose of the items.
The Sheriff’s Department is thankful the citizen and first responders who arrived at the scene were cautious when they went toward the bag.
