Mercyhealth, Blackhawk Technical College announce new scholarship for students studying health fields

JANESVILLE, Wis. — Mercyhealth and Blackhawk Technical College have announced a new scholarship program to help students studying fields that will lead them to jobs in the healthcare industry.

The Mercyhealth Making Lives Better Scholarship will cover tuition, fees and books for students at Blackhawk Technical College studying in nursing, radiography, surgical technology, culinary arts and phlebotomy technician programs. The healthcare provider said it will donate $40,000 each year for the next two years to fund the program and is also providing a paid internship opportunity for a scholarship recipient.

“Careers in healthcare offer great wages — life-changing, generational-changing wages,” the college’s president, Dr. Tracy Pierner, said. “In short, healthcare sits front and center in our past, in our present and in our future.”

To qualify, students need to live in Rock County and be enrolled in at least six credits at Blackhawk. Preference will be given to those with financial need.
