The Memorial Union Terrace is one of the most iconic spots in Madison that has been enjoyed by visitors and locals alike for generations. Sitting at the edge of the University of Wisconsin–Madison’s campus with one of the best views of Lake Mendota, Memorial Union and its legendary terrace have taken home 58 total awards in the annual poll.

Memorial Union has been recognized by Best of Madison as a place to take a date, people watch, take out-of-town guests and see folks wearing Birkenstocks (yes, this was a real Best of Madison category in 1993). Inside the ivy-covered building, students can often be found with coffees and laptops enjoying the designated study spaces and restaurants. But non-students come from all over for the burgers, sandwiches, pizza and ice cream — not to mention the pitchers of beer perfect for a sunny day outside on the Terrace.

Anyone who has been to the Union Terrace on one of those sunny days knows just how special the location is with its brightly colored Terrace chairs and a serene Lake Mendota in the background. It has won 10 awards for its outdoor dining and another seven for the view. It also has become known as one of the best live music venues in Madison, with 16 awards in that category for its concerts and open mic nights throughout the year in Der Rathskeller and on the outdoor stage.
