Memorial Union adds new terrace chairs as part of fundraising effort

The Memorial Union Terrace on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus has a new addition: “Mendota Blue” terrace chairs.

These 300 limited-edition chairs will be out on the Terrace, alongside the traditional green, yellow and orange colors until July 31, officials said. Then, they will be given to donors who make at least a $1,000 contribution to the Memorial Union Reinvestment project.

On Sunday, union officials and UW Credit Union launched the Mendota Blue Movement, a capital campaign to raise funds to renovate and restore Memorial Union.

“The initial reaction’s been fantastic so far. People are really excited about anything having to do with the terrace chairs in general,” said Wisconsin Union Director Mark Guthier. “I think our support (is due to) the fact that we used that in a fun way to communicate the goals of the campaign to the community.”

The revealing of the chairs was part of “Party on the Terrace.” Partygoers celebrated with live music, arts and crafts, free food, games and prizes.
