Hundreds gathered at Edgewood High School Saturday morning to celebrate the lives of Bram Dorresteijn, and Shari Dorresteijn.

Bram’s longtime friend, Rich Henderson, said the couple’s life was cut too short.

“They were the epitome of life, fun, integrity, humor, athleticism and devoted love to each other and their children,” Rich Henderson said. “I have a complete sense of disbelief to have two vibrant people whose whole lives were ahead of them gone.”

Bram Dorresteijn was taken off life support Sunday night, according to a relative. His wife, Shari Dorresteijn, was instantly killed in the crash. The couple left behind a newborn and a toddler.

Mourners packed into Edgewood High School in Madison to reflect on Shari and Bram’s love for one another.

Erica Kuhns was Shari’s college roommate. She said the two were perfect for each other, and she takes solace in the fact that the two died together.

“It was comforting in a way for Bram to go with her,” Kuhns said. “I don’t want her to be alone.”

Those in attendance said their main focus is the couple’s young children Charlotte and Wesley.

“You know, I definitely plan to write some memories down, pull out every picture I can find just so they know how wonderful and how awesome their parents were,” Kuhns said.

Family members said both Bram and Shari were organ donors. Bram saved three lives by donating his lungs and two kidneys. Shari’s skin, heart valves and corneas were donated.

A memorial fund for the Dorresteijns’ children has been established at the First Business Bank.
