Melvin Gordon a Heisman Trophy finalist
Mariota, Cooper also finalists
MADISON, Wis. — Monday the Heisman Trust announced that Melvin Gordon is a finalist for the Heisman Trophy. Other finalists included Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota and Alabama wide receiver Amari Cooper.
Gordon had an historic year for Wisconsin. The junior running back broke the Big Ten single-season rushing record to go along with 29 touchdowns.
Gordon’s signature performance came against Nebraska, when the Kenosha native broke an FBS single-game record, rushing for 408 yards.
The running back helped lead the Badgers to a Big Ten West Division championship and a bid to the Outback Bowl.
The 80th Heisman Trophy presentation is Saturday night at 7 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN.
