Medical examiner to replace Rock County Coroner’s Office Jan. 5
Coroner's office being replaced after 132 years
JANESVILLE, Wis. — According to a release, at midnight on Jan. 5, the Rock County Coroner’s Office will close after 132 years of service.
Starting on Jan. 5, the new Rock County Medical Examiner’s Department will be taking over for the Coroner’s office.
This change was made so the medical examiner could bring additional resources to further enhance the forensic capabilities to law enforcement and for the citizens of the county.
The Coroner’s Office wants to thank all of the citizens of Rock County for the support they have provided throughout the years.
On Sept. 11, the Rock County board voted 21-4 to eliminate the elected Coroner’s Office and contract with the Dane County medical examiner to run a Medical Examiner Office in Rock County.
Those working for the Rock County Coroner’s Office were laid off, but given the option to apply for positions in the new office.
