Mary Therese Campbell
Mary Therese Campbell, age 80, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 15, 2017, at Rock Haven in Janesville.
Her husband of 57 years, William H. Campbell Jr., her nine children: William H. (Deb) Campbell, III, Mary Beth (Lee) Ferry, Katherine Campbell, Anne (John) Zuleger, Margaret (Eric) Nelson, Brigit (Carl) Frank, Therese (Jeff) Smeins, Mary Ellen (Gary) Aron, and Thomasine (Peter) Konkel, and her 18 grandchildren will miss her terribly. She was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Eileen McGinty, and her uncle, Msgr. John Farrell.
Parkinson’s disease took Mary’s voice from her, so her children would like to take this opportunity to remind her grandchildren about the energetic, intelligent and silly person who was their grandma. Mary wasn’t just a pretty face. She was born in Chicago to a legal secretary and police officer. She obtained a BA in English Literature from Trinity College and an MA in Education from Marquette University where she met our dad. She had a life-long passion for reading, which she passed on to her children. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking and entertaining (not necessarily in that order). And, Mary thought she could sing–we won’t comment on this one.
As her family, we were taught to appreciate education, not fight with our siblings, go to church, attach an adjective to every noun, and laugh whenever possible. She set this example for us every day. From her strange sayings to her love of teasing dad, she mostly taught us joy. So, in closing, we would just like to say, “Get up little chickens! It’s time to have a cookie and an egg.”
A Visitation will be held on Friday, April 21, 2017, at ST. JOHN VIANNEY CATHOLIC CHURCH from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Rock County Humane Society in Mary’s memory.
