Mary J. Balistreri
MADISON- Mary Josephine Balistreri, 94, passed away peacefully, January 29, 2014, surrounded by her loving husband of 73 years and family.
She was born on November 30, 1919, in Milwaukee, WI, the daughter of Salvatore & Maria D’Amato. Mary grew up in Milwaukee and graduated from Lincoln High School. Following her marriage to Samual (Sam) J. Balistreri, she worked at Pabst Blue Ribbon Brewery. In 1946 they moved to Madison, WI were they raised their five sons. Mary was a proud, mother and housekeeper. She will forever be remembered for her extraordinary creativity, demonstrated in her cooking and beautiful knitting, painting and embroidery work. She was a member of the St. Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary were she volunteered for 25 years. Mary (Nana) was a gentle, caring, soul who was always there for her family; whether it was a son’s sporting event, travels with her husband, or to celebrate the birth of a new grandchild.
Mary is survived by her loving husband, Samuel J. Balistreri; son, Frank (Mary) Balistreri; son, Ted (Mary) Balistreri; son, Bob (Leonida) Balistreri; son, Joe (Judy) Balistreri; her 14 Grand-children; and 16 Great Grand-children.
She is preceded in death by her son, John (Margaret) Balistreri.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2014, at ST. THOMAS ACQUINAS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 602 Everglade Drive, Madison, WI. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at the church on Saturday. Entombment will be at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.
