Mary Ellen Schmit
Mary E. Schmit, age 73, died on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at Maplewood of Sauk Prairie.
She was born on March 22, 1941, the daughter of the late Aldro and Ruby (Barsness) Johnson. She was united in marriage to James Schmit on February 16, 1963 at St. Norbert’s Catholic Church in Roxbury. Jim preceded her in death on December 15, 1995.
Mary was employed by Tracor Instruments (Noran) for many years before retiring. She enjoyed her grandchildren’s events and activities, her granddaughter’s dance recitals and grandson’s basketball games, and other sporting events. Prior to having grandchildren, she enjoyed the Sauk Prairie Twins baseball and was also a Brewer fan. She cherished her brothers and sisters and enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is survived by her son, Mitch; two grandchildren, Evan and Kalyn; a sister, Joyce Schultz; two sisters-in-law, Virginia Johnson and Rose Johnson; three brothers-in-law, Donald (Betty), Gerald (Emmita) and John (Mary) Schmit; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Sandra, Diane and Darlene; and two brothers, Roger and Aldro.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. ALOYSIUS CATHOLIC CHURCH, Sauk City, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 24, 2014, with Fr. Pedro Escribano officiating. Burial will follow in St. Aloysius Cemetery. A visitation will be held at HOOVERSON FUNERAL HOME, Sauk City, on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.
