Mary Ann Engen – Dottl

Mary Ann Engen – Dottl, 72, of Viroqua died on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2014, at Gunderson Health System in La Crosse.

She was born January 16, 1942, to Otis Joseph and Borghild Julia (Holte) Stalsberg. She was baptized and confirmed at Franklin Lutheran Church at Folsom.

She is survived by her three daughters, Kathleen Hirschfield of Viroqua; Lorrie (Tom) Speldrich of Viroqua; Sherry (Jeffrey) Coleman of La Crosse; one son, Mark (Danielle) Engen of Viroqua; five granddaughters, Ashley Hirschfield of La Crosse, Jamie (Dan) Fredrick of Cashton; Kayla Speldrich of Viroqua; Haylee Speldrich of Viroqua; Kasey Engen of Viroqua; one grandson, Evin Engen of Viroqua; two great grandsons, Joseph and Kayden; two great grand daughters, Noavah and Trinity. She is also survived by two step-daughters, Christine (Bill) Metcalf of West Salem; Peggy (Dan) Koresh of Sparta; one step-son, David (Brenda) Engen of Brownsville, MN and their families; three sisters, Ona Heried of Racine, Lois Bean of Beloit and Karen Jefson of Columbus, GA.; and other friends that she held close at heart.

She was preceded in death by her Father and Mother; five brothers, Verdell, Myron, Gaylord, Warren, and Kermit; two sisters, Beatrice Nelson and Donna Caro. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Ruben Engen on April 13, 1979 and her second husband David Dottl on March 31, 2013.

Mary Ann loved to garden, she had an amazing green thumb that would make any gardener jealous. She also had a wonderful eye for decorating. She enjoyed creating and crafting on any scale big or small.

In lieu of plants or flowers, memorials to the family are preferred.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 26 at Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 West Decker Street, Viroqua. Pastor Peter Beckstrand will officiate. Friends may visit with the family from 10 a.m. until time of service Friday at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Zion Church Cemetery. To celebrate Mary’s life, join the family for lunch following the memorial service.
