Mary Ann Brooks
Mary Ann Brooks, age 71, of Whitewater, died on Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at Agrace Center for Hospice & Palliative Care.
She was born in Plainview, MN on April 13, 1945, the daughter of Charles and Iva (Irish) Rheingans. She married Dr. Patrick Brooks in Plainview, MN on July 10, 1965, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 11, 2015. Mary Ann had been employed as a secretary by the University of Minnesota, and the Janesville Education Association. She also worked as the guidance secretary at Marshall Middle School, and the principal’s secretary at Lincoln Elementary School. In her retirement she volunteered at Lakeview Elementary School, Whitewater, and served on the Patient and Family Advisory Committee (PFAC) for oncology at UW Carbone Cancer Center. She enjoyed traveling, all sports especially Wisconsin Sports.
Mary is survived by her 2 children, Stephanie (Brent) Steinke of Whitewater and Ann Marie Pranke of Janesville; 2 grandchildren, Colton Steinke and Connor Steinke; 3 siblings: Linda (Dale) Richter of Bellevue, NE, Dean (Sue) Rheingans and Randy (Pam) Rheingans both of Turtle Lake, WI; faithful companions her dogs, Lexy and Murphy; many other extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Charles; and son-in-law, Martin Pranke.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 25, 2017, at SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY. A visitation will be held on Saturday from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Dr. Patrick and Mary Ann Brooks Memorial Scholarship Fund, Whitewater High School.
